Alopex.

I'm a developer and engineer who works where code, creativity and hardware meet. I like building things that are useful, beautiful and different, and then shipping them.

Away from the day job.

I pride myself on getting the absolute most out of technology. It is a lifelong passion, and these are the places it goes when nobody is paying for it.

A VR COMMUNITY

VR hooked me in 2020, and I started an Australian VR community that year. It is still going strong, with just under 1,000 members.

COMPETITIVE PAVLOV

I played Pavlov at esports level in APAC, the official Pavlov league for the Asia-Pacific region, and took first place in its 2023 championship. I also won its annual mixed-teams league.

VR HARDWARE

Since 2020 I have modified, improved and built for VR systems, including augmented tracking setups and my own SlimeVR modules.

STANDALONE VR

Lately I build for standalone headsets. Phaethon is fully playable on the Quest and Pico lines with no PC attached.

PORTABLE COMPUTING

I argue for mobile development and portable computing, and I build custom portable machines around Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi and Nvidia Jetson boards.

THE HEXAPOD

My servo-driven hexapod robot uses my old Nexus 5 as its control platform and IMU. I drive it wirelessly from my current phone.

MODELS AT HOME

I experiment with diffusion models, large language models and neural nets. I create, modify and host them on my home lab and serve them to my phone while I am on the road.

THE DEMOSCENE

A demoscener since university in 2011. The scene is about getting the absolute most out of the hardware in front of you, which is still what I enjoy most.

Acoustic monitoring for advanced manufacturing. The system listens to a production line and catches process faults by their sound, alongside vision and thermal monitoring.

I ship what I make, use it myself and keep improving it. I do that independently, from the first sketch to the release. Some of it is now used around the world, which still surprises me. There is always a new tool or a new problem worth a weekend.

The best feeling is still an idea turning into something that helps somebody else.
